Chronology of cameras Sea and Sea
This camera is a bit of a mystery. It is a waterproof camera, not a camera in a case. At the time of its' release Sea and Sea claimed it was the world's smallest underwater camera, but of course smaller ones had been made for 110 film in the 1980's. It is designed for depths of up to 40 metres.
The lens is fixed and the focus range is therefore determined by depth of field. The focus range under water is only 0,7 - 1,7 m, out of water it is 1,0 m - infinity.
The shutter speed is also fixed at 1/100 s according to the manual. The combination of shutter speed and aperture suggests an EV value of 13,5. That would explain why a neutral density filter was recommended in bright light. The neutral density filter, a close up lens and a higher powered strobe light were all available as accessories.
There are two different flash distances given for films of 100 and 400 ISO. That confirms that there is only one aperture. The range of the flash on land is given as 1,0 -1,2 m for 100 ISO or 1,0 - 2,5 m for ISO 400. The range of the flash under water is given as 0,7 - 1,0 m for 100 ISO, or 0,7 - 1,9 m for 400 ISO. The poor flash performance would suggest the use of 400 ISO film at all times.
The camera has a cell which would only be required to trigger the flash at the appropriate light levels for flilms of different senstivity. The camera was also available with blue or green highlights as alternatives to the yellow.
